Edinson Cavani

According to reports from The Express this morning, Arsenal and Manchester United target Edinson Cavani is set to hold crisis talks with manager Laurent Blanc to decide his future at PSG.

As This Is Futbol revealed earlier this month, Premier League interest in the Uruguay international heightened following a touchline spat with Blanc during a recent 3-2 win over Marseille – leading his agent to subsequently claim a summer move to either England or Italy could be on the cards.

In addition to his frosty relationship with the 1998 World Cup winner, Cavani’s failure to escape the enigmatic shadow of Zlatan Ibrahimovic is believed to be another motivation behind his potential departure. Despite netting 48 goals in 89 appearances for the Ligue 1 Champions, the 28 year-old has often found himself fielded on the wing to make room for Ibrahimovic as the lone striker.

An inside source has informed Le Parisien (as quoted by The Express); “There is no question that he will not stay one more season if the sporting situation doesn’t change. This is the bottom line. Edinson understood that, in the interests of the team, he had to play on the right side and he has done that for two years now.”

It seems PSG will be forced to sell either Cavani or Ibrahimovic this summer, and although Arsenal and Manchester United have both been strongly linked to the former in recent weeks, they surely wouldn’t mind taking on the latter for a season or two.
