William Carvalho

As This Is Futbol informed you earlier this week, Manchester United sent scouts to run the rule over William Carvalho last weekend as Sporting Lisbon recorded a 1-1 draw against Pacos de Ferreira.

Revelations today however, courtesy of The Express, claim Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal now wants weekly reports on the defensive midfielder. They quote a tweet from Portuguese football expert Jan Hagen, who claimed on Twitter; “Man United had a representative to watch William Carvalho on Saturday. Van Gaal wants weekly reports on the Sporting midfielder.”

The 23 year-old prodigy has become a mainstay in the Sporting first team since the beginning of last season, following an impressive spell on loan with Belgian side Cercle Brugge, gaining notoriety throughout Europe for his formidable physicality – measuring at 6 foot 2 and weighing over 14 stone – and simple-yet-effective play-breaking style.

The Express claim Sporting will demand his £37million release clause is met in full if they’re to part with the Portugal international this summer, however, whilst interest from fellow Premier League suitors Arsenal could cause further problems. According to The Independent, the Gunners had a bid for Carvalho turned down last January.
