Tom Cleverley

According to reports from The Express this morning, Everton boss Roberto Martinez is keen to sign Manchester United flop Tom Cleverley on a free transfer this summer.

The 25 year-old was once mooted as a potential successor to Paul Scholes at Old Trafford, making 22 appearances during the Red Devils’ title-winning 2012/13 season and even claiming 13 caps for England.

Under David Moyes last season, however, Cleverley failed to recapture the form of old and he now finds himself struggling to impress at Aston Villa, having averaged just 2.5 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 0.9 chances created and 0.3 successful dribbles from 26 Premier League outings this season.

But Roberto Martinez is prepared to take another punt on the central midfielder by bringing him to Goodison Park next term upon the expiration of his United contract – which is not expected to be renewed.

The Toffees boss loaned Cleverley for arguably the most successful season of his career, bagging four goals in 25 outings to help keep Wigan Athletic in the top flight during the 2010/11 campaign.

Tottenham, Sunderland and West Ham are also interested in the former England playmaker, as reported by Mirror Football, but Everton believe their style of play – befitting of Cleverley’s ball-retaining qualities – will convince him to move to Merseyside.

shirt is a sham,he never wanted to be here, only when
the transfer broke down and he was left in limbo etc .
The sooner he jumps ship again the better. There
Are academy youngster at Avfc more talented and more
    Loyal than Tc.
