As This Is Futbol revealed on Saturday, Premier League duo Newcastle and Southampton are apparently battling it out for the signature of QPR striker Charlie Austin.
The 25 year-old’s 17 goals last season fired the west Londoners to promotion from the Championship, but he’s already matched that total this year in just 30 appearances, ranking him fourth in the Premier League’s scoring charts, whilst also picking up four assists.
That makes him the second-top-scoring Englishman in the league this year, after Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.
With many anticipating relegation for Rangers come the end of May, it’s more than likely Austin will be sold this summer to cut costs at Loftus Road – in fact, Mirror Football claim QPR will cash-in even if they avoid the drop.
But reports today, courtesy of The Daily Mail, claim another suitor has emerged from the woodwork. Along with Club Brugge youngster Obbi Oulare, Everton are eyeing a summer bid for the Rangers centre-forward.
That could spell the end for club-record signing Romelu Lukaku; earlier this week, Mirror Football claimed Wolfsburg, PSG and Borussia Dortmund are all targeting the 6 foot 3 Belgium international.
