According to reports from The Metro this morning, Arsenal are on the verge of launching a bid for Dynamo Kyiv centre-back Aleksander Dragovic.
The 24 year-old has been one of Europe’s most in-form centre-backs this season, building upon the prestigious reputation he gained from his three years at FC Basel – where he won three Swiss Super League titles and the division’s Best Defender award for 2012.
Manchester United came close to signing the Austrian international on January deadline day, with The Express reporting an £11.2million bid that never materialised.
The Metro have also mooted West Ham and Tottenham as fellow suitors, but claim Arsenal are now leading the race with their plans for a summer bid.
With three years remaining on Dragovic’s current contract, however, having signed for Kyiv only two summers ago, it will take a significant fee to convince the Ukrainian outfit to sell.
Whether this forces Man United to consider alternative targets – as This Is Futbol revealed yesterday, they’re also monitoring Miranda’s situation at Atletico Madrid – remains to be seen.
