Could Arsenal really be in the market for this sensational £80m deal?

Paul Pogba 1In the last two or so years, The Gunners have become notably more ambitious in the transfer market. They’ve shaken off the debts laid on them by The Emirates Stadium and they’ve entered the modern footballing world. In many ways, they’re now ready to compete with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United (financially at least).

Two summers ago, Arsenal sealed a startling £42.4m deal for Real Madrid star, Mesut Ozil. Whilst the German midfielder has proven to be something of a disappointment, it was a mark of Arsene Wenger’s ambition. He backed this up by spending £30m+ on Alexis Sanchez, who has proven to be a welcome addition to The Gunners’ squad.

With these signings in mind, it’s hard not to start fantasizing about what The Professor might get up to next summer. Perhaps he’ll up the ante once more? One thing’s for sure: Arsenal’s squad could still use a little more quality.

This brings me to a rather bizarre article from The Metro. The source claims that The Gunners could well be in the market to sign former Manchester United star and current Juventus whizz-kid, Paul Pogba. No bid deal, right? Wrong: as things currently stand, Pogba has a mammoth £80m price-tag.

A deal for the Frenchman would absolutely smash The Gunners’ existing transfer record. That’s almost double what Arsene Wenger spent on Mesut Ozil.

The aforementioned source justifies their claim by noting that Arsenal are ‘considering hiring’ Fabio Paratici from Juventus. He’s the club’s Sporting Director and he played a major role in convincing Paul Pogba to move to Turin in the first place. The Metro has joined the dots and have arrived at the conclusion that Arsenal might be trying to maneuver themselves into a deal for the French midfielder.

That’s all well and good, but the sticking point is that £80m price-tag. I wouldn’t be surprised if Arsene Wenger was a fan of Pogba, but I can’t see any side in the Premier League spending that much on him.

I hope Arsenal continue to show their ambition in the transfer window, but it’s important to be realistic as well.

What’s your take? Can Arsenal really compete for players with price-tags that big?

I don’t agree that Wenger can do such expensive business, for him he likes cheap players so Pogba can either join teams like Chelsea, man city, real Madrid and Barcelona but with what he has experience in man united am not sure he will go their again.
