Arturo Vidal ChileFor long swathes of last summer, The Red Devils found themselves linked to Juventus’s star midfielder, Arturo Vidal. It’s not clear whether Manchester United were interested or not, but we do know that Louis Van Gaal never pulled the trigger on a deal.

Instead, he brought in options like Daley Blind and chose to give players like Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini a little more game time. I have to say, I’m not sure that this approach has been a great success.

Daley Blind has had the occasional good game, but he’s also inconsistent and he’s yet to properly settle in English football. His passing is too slow and he doesn’t always use the ball in an effective manner. With Juan Mata looking like a shadow of the player he was during his time with Chelsea and Marouane Fellaini’s inability to find his best position on the pitch, Manchester United are struggling to create impetus within their midfield.

Right on cue, Manchester United have started to pick up links to Arturo Vidal once again. They need him now more than ever.

According to The Metro, Juventus would be willing to ‘accept as little as £14.4m’ in return for their talented Chilean. The source notes that Vidal has enjoyed a mixed bag of a season, with his performances being (in general) well below par.

Could it be that he was mentally affected by the summer that was, with its rumours and intrigue? Coming so close to moving to a club like Manchester United could well mess with your head space.

Perhaps he’ll finally get to move on this coming summer. Given his affordable price-tag, there’s no reason for Manchester United not to swoop in and close this deal. They’ll be getting a player who’s got bags of energy, great verve going forward and plenty of footballing nous.

Louis Van Gaal could be on the verge of a genuine bargain here.

What’s your take? Is Arturo Vidal still worthy of Manchester United’s interest?
