Arsenal lodge £30m bid: why they need this deal to happen

DybalaAfter Arsenal’s display against Monaco in their midweek Champions League clash, I wouldn’t be surprised if Arsene Wenger were already looking ahead to the summer transfer window. That performance was so abject that it puts The Gunners’ entire season into perspective.

The Gunners have a few good players (Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla are world class), but they don’t have a team that’s capable of competing at the top level. They’re very much in the second tier of European football’s big clubs. That’s why a fairly mediocre Monaco side were able to embarrass them.

Arsenal seem to be unable to rise to the occasion at the moment. The only way this is going to change is if Arsene Wenger opts to bring more top quality players. He needs footballers who won’t balk in the big games. He needs players who won’t spurn their chances when the opportunities arise.

This brings me to the club’s rumoured interest in Palermo star, Paulo Dybala. According to The Metro, a £30m bid has already been lodged. That’s a fairly impressive show of intent.

Dybala, who’s just 21-years-old, has already been compared to Sergio Aguero. Wouldn’t it be something if The Gunners had a player with that much quality upfront? Wouldn’t that represent a marked improvement over Olivier Giroud?

Paulo Dybala is lightning quick, technically good and he’s got an eye for goal. I’m sure he’d fit right into this Arsenal team. I’d love to see him get the opportunity to strut his stuff at the top level. What’s more, it looks like his club is willing to let him go. Check out these comments from Palermo club president, Maurizio Zamparini:

‘I’m speaking directly to the presidents of the teams interested in England. There is a lot of interest, the player is very good and we’ll try to find an agreement.’

I can’t help but wonder if Arsenal is one of these teams. I certainly hope so. This is a club in desperate need of freshening up.

What’s your take? Are The Gunners in desperate need of a tune up? Is Paulo Dybala the right man for the job?
