Why Manchester United have to beat Liverpool to this £37m talent:

|

DaniloManchester United have enjoyed an interesting season. Whilst they’ve been poor in the cup competitions, they’ve taken advantage of Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham’s inconsistency in the Premier League to climb up into the top four.

It’s not that The Red Devils have been any better this season (if anything, they’ve grown steadily more boring), it’s just that their competition has got slightly worse.

With this in mind, even if Manchester United finish above where they finished last season, they’ll still need to make further signings next summer. In particular, I’d argue that they need to take a look at their defense. I’m not sure they’ve ever really recovered from losing Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra all at once.

This must explain why Manchester United have been strongly linked to FC Porto’s star right-back, Danilo. The Brazilian ace’s reputation has been growing steadily over the last 24 months and he’s now starting to court attention from some fairly major clubs.

If Manchester United are going to close this deal, they’re going to have to face off some fairly staunch competition from Liverpool. They’ll also have to find a way to whittle down his price-tag. According to The Metro, Danilo has a £37m release clause written into his FC Porto contract.

The Red Devils won’t want to spend that much on him, so Louis Van Gaal is going to have to put his negotiation cap on.

Danilo certainly looks like a high quality option. For a start, he’s lightning quick. He gets up and down the flanks at rapid pace, slams into tackles, links up well with midfielders and he’s capable of creating havoc in the final third.

Given time, he could prove to be a Manchester United stalwart. He’s young enough to be a long-term option and he’s got the quality to make a major impact.

With that in mind, let’s hope that Louis Van Gaal is able to beat Brendan Rodgers to the punch in the transfer market.

What’s your take? Is Danilo the man for Manchester United?
