Should Manchester United attempt to hijack this £8m Liverpool deal?

Since last summer Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Paris Saint Germain’s star winger, Ezequiel Lavezzi. The Argentine ace is an exciting talent and Brendan Rodgers is thought to be looking to bolster his options down the flanks. It looks like a match made in heaven, doesn’t it?

Unfortunately for The Reds, it looks like wrapping up a deal for Lavezzi could prove to be rather difficult, especially if their old rivals Manchester United have anything to say about it.

According to The Metro, Manchester United are ‘ready to make an offer’ for Ezequiel Lavezzi ‘ahead of Liverpool’. Could Louis Van Gaal be about to hijack Brendan Rodgers’ deal?

Manchester United are known to have their own problems down the flanks. They’ve sent Nani off on loan to Sporting Lisbon (where he’s actually proving to be quite a hit), they’ve converted Antonio Valencia into a right-back and they’re struggling to get the most out of players like Ashley Young and Angel Di Maria.

When Van Gaal speaks about his squad, he often claims that it’s lacking in balance. This must surely be due to The Red Devil’s lack of cut and thrust down the flanks. His midfielders can keep the ball well, but they’re not particular good at getting in behind. Their £59.7m signing is currently the subject of a great deal of criticism. Surely something has to give?

Ezequiel Lazezzi could prove to be the perfect answer. The Argentine international is nippy and direct. On his day he can be seriously effective in the final third. I wouldn’t be surprised if his arrival at Old Trafford opened the club up from an attacking perspective.

According to The Metro, Lavezzi could be available for as little as £8m due to his contractual situation. If this is true, Van Gaal would be foolish to sit still. It’s rare that a talent that big is available for a price that small. If The Red Devils don’t snap him up, somebody else will. Brendan Rodgers, perhaps?
