Should Liverpool swoop in for this £7.2m La Liga sensation?

|

lucas-vazquezLiverpool fans must have been hoping that their side would kick on this season. They came so close to silverware last season, only to cower away at the last moment. Surely they’d go all the way this time around?

Unfortunately, that hasn’t proven to be the case. The Reds started the year at a snails pace, with all their new signings struggling to hit the ground running. Whilst Daniel Sturridge was injured, Brendan Rodgers’ boys failed to make any meaningful inroads in the opposition penalty area.

Since Sturridge has returned they’ve been better, but it strikes me that there’s still room for improvement among The Reds’ attacking options.

This leads me onto The Metro‘s claim that Liverpool are considering swooping in for Real Madrid’s talented young Spaniard, Lucas Vazquez.

After years of playing for Real Madrid’s secondary teams, the lightning quick winger has finally started to make his mark in La Liga this year. Between 2011 and 2014, he made 92 appearances for Real Madrid B, getting on the score sheet 15 times. That’s a pretty good return for a young winger.

This was enough to see him earn a loan move to Espanyol, where he’s also proven to be a hit. Despite his youth, he’s managed to find the back of the net 3 times this season and he’s even chipped in with 5 assists. He’s only 23-years-old, but it’s clear that he could go on to bigger and better things.

If he continues to develop at his current rate, he’s going to blossom into something special.

According to the aforementioned source, Madrid could be prepared to sell for as little as £7.2m. That’s a fair price for somebody with a bucket load of potential. Now we just have to wait and see whether Brendan Rodgers and co. are willing to splash out on some more young talent.

What’s your take? What approach should Brendan Rodgers take in the summer transfer window? Should they snap up Lucas Vazquez?
