SchneiderlinArsenal are the Premier League’s most inconsistent side. If they could play their free-flowing attacking football week-in and week-out and consistently get the most out of players like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, there’s little doubt that they would be competing for the Premier League title this season.

As it is, they’re just about in the race for a top four finish this year (though if they have too many more slip ups, they’ll have to reconfigure their priorities). This must be hugely disappointing for Arsenal fans, who have seen their team come close on so many different occasions.

It strikes me that The Gunners are one or two players away from having a title winning squad (as usual). In particular, they need a long-term defensive midfielder option. Francis Coquelin has proven to be something of a revelation since he’s returned back from his loan move to Charlton Athletic, but I’m not sure that he’s the absolute best that Arsenal can do.

Arsene Wenger certainly needs a better back-up option than Mathieu Flamini, who’s too slow and too small to make it in the Premier League.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal are still in the market for Southampton star, Morgan Schneiderlin. Arsene Wenger was in the hunt for the Frenchman during the summer, but a deal never materialised. Perhaps The Gunners will be able to close this deal during the next iteration of the transfer window.

The aforementioned source claims that Schneiderlin is now ‘desperate’ to seal a move to The Emirates. That strikes me as fairly strong language, but there you go. It’s thought that Arsenal are willing to double the Frenchman’s £30k-a-week salary in order to push a deal through. No wonder he’s keen to leave his current digs.

Southampton are believed to be willing to sell for £25m. That figure should be well within Arsenal’s financial reach. Let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger’s ready and willing to pull the trigger on this move.

What’s your take? Is Morgan Schneiderlin still the right man for The Gunners?
