kenedyAs things currently stand, Manchester United seem to be lacking inspiration in just about every section of the pitch.

Without the likes of Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra, they’re significantly less solid defensively. Their midfield hasn’t hit top gear since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club and they’re somehow struggling to get any real quality out of talented players like Juan Mata.

Then there’s their strike-force, which isn’t getting any younger. Robin Van Persie is approaching the autumn of his career, Wayne Rooney is no spring chicken and Radamel Falcao is struggling for form. At the moment, these forwards seem to be struggling because of a lack of good service into them.

Louis Van Gaal will have his work cut out for him in the summer, but I hope he focuses on adding a little flair to his midfield. Imagine what they could achieve if they had an Eden Hazard type, an Alexis Sanchez type or even a Raheem Sterling type. Perhaps they’d be able to compete for the Premier League title once again?

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Manchester United are considering making a move for Fluminense’s Brazilian midfielder, Kenedy. The source suggests that United are ‘keen to do business’ and that they’re ‘aware of the huge competition’ for his signature.

Why is there so much competition? Perhaps because Kenedy has recently been labelled the ‘new Neymar’. That’s not just because he’s Brazilian. He’s also supremely confident on the ball for a young footballer (he’s just 19-years-old), he’s a tricky customer, he’s capable of beating his man and he’s super direct.

He’s the kind of footballer who can make things happen in the final third through sheer force of will. He could well develop into a world class footballer. Who knows what he’s capable of?

The aforementioned source claims that Manchester United are readying a £5.7m bid. If that’s enough to close a deal then this could prove to be a good piece of business.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United be looking at more experienced options?
