Could there still be a role for Alex Song at Arsenal?

Alex Song 2Before The Gunners rediscovered Francis Coquelin there were many fans out there who were suggesting that their club should consider signing Alex Song. As you’re probably aware, the Cameroonian international was an Arsenal player for seven years between 2005 and 2012.

During his stay, he won over plenty of fans thanks to his high-energy performances and his ability on the ball. He’s primarily a defensive midfielder, but he’s not particularly disciplined. He loves to roam forward and he can be effective in the final third.

In 2012, Alex Song began to develop grand designs and thought it would be a good idea to move to Barcelona. Unsurprisingly, he’s found it difficult to leap-frog players like Sergio Busquets and Javier Mascherano in the Barca pecking order. As a result, his paymasters have loaned him out to West Ham, where he’s been a massive hit.

Alex Song has looked like a player with a point to prove this year. Indeed, he’s helped The Hammers to linger towards the top of the table for a pro-longed period of time. Naturally enough, clubs like Arsenal have begun to take notice in him once again. Maybe his La Liga adventure has transformed him into the kind of player that Arsene Wenger could work with once again?

I’m sure The Professor will be interested by Alex Song’s recent comments. Check them out here:

‘The most important thing is happiness. I am very happy here and I will make my decision at the end of the season. I still have two years left (on contract) at Barcelona but my kids have a lot of friends in London and I would love to stay here (West Ham).’ (Source: The Express)

Alex Song’s kids grew up in London during the Cameroonian’s stay at Arsenal. I’m sure they’d be happy to have their dad regularly stationed in this part of the world.

He doesn’t have a place in this Barcelona side, but he’d probably get a decent amount of game-time at The Emirates. What’s more, if The Gunners were to go head-to-head with The Hammers in the transfer market, there’s only one side that would win out.

It all depends on Arsene Wenger’s level of interest.

What’s your take? Should The Gunners consider re-signing Alex Song?

Alex Song would be a great signing if he came back to Arsenal.

There’s no doubt or question about Songs ability Arsenal needs him now more than he needs arsenal. Only problem is Wenger pride & arrogance otherwise Fab should be our man too. Correction Fab forced his way out Song was shipped out due to Wenger s love for easy money. What you deceipline was due to arsenal formation of play.
