Jackson MartinezArsenal have more than one world-class midfielder, but I’d argue that they lack players of this calibre in goalkeeping, defensive and forward positions. Indeed, I’d go as far as to claim that The Gunners’ strikers are made to look a little bit better than they are by the fine form of the club’s midfield talent.

Santi Cazorla is one of the best midfielders in the world at the moment. The way he carries the ball, switches play and picks out killer passes is a joy to behold. Who wouldn’t benefit from playing in front of him?

Danny Welbeck doesn’t strike me as a natural goal-scorer. I’m not sure that he has the killer edge necessary to make it at the top level. Then there’s Olivier Giroud, who’s a pretty good finisher, but seriously lacks in pace. He’s good in the air, but he’s not always in the right position to score, because he’s fairly slow.

Arsenal would benefit from having somebody with Danny Welbeck’s pace and Olivier Giroud’s finishing ability. If Alexis Sanchez is to play out wide for most of his career at The Emirates, Arsene Wenger may well have to look to the transfer window.

This brings me to The Gunners’ long-term interest in FC Porto’s star striker, Jackson Martinez. The man is a marvel. In 24 games this season, he’s scored 20 goals. But he’s not a one season wonder. In 117 games for FC Porto, he’s scored 83 goals. He’s lightning quick, he’s technically good and he’s a smart cookie. He’s one of the best forwards in Europe.

Better still, it looks like he’s ready for a new challenge. Check out these comments from the man himself: ‘Right now I only focus on doing my job with Porto, but I’m ready to make the leap in the next window. I have my head focused only on the work I’m doing at Porto at the moment and when the transfer window reopens, we shall see what will happen.’ (Source: The Metro)

Let’s hope that Arsene Wenger is listening. I can’t think of a better summer transfer target than Jackson Martinez.

What’s your take? Who should The Gunners target next summer?

Giroud is not only slow player but very slow. Getting Martinez of FC Porto is not a new advice to Mr l too know (Wenger) is just because Martinez is not a French player Wenger would have since bid for him. Wenger prefers sluggish Giroud than VIBRANT Martinez. Up Wenger your days are numbered.
