Paul Pogba 1If you believe the press, it looks like Manchester United are desperate to make a big money bid of some kind this January. We’ve heard a lot in recent weeks about a potential move for Real Madrid’s superstar winger, Gareth Bale. The Express claim that Louis Van Gaal was mulling over a £100m move.

These rumours were even commented on by the Welsh wizard himself, who soon told reporters that his future was with Real Madrid, not Manchester United.

Spurned, it looks as though The Red Devils have begun to look elsewhere for a new big money signing. They’re like the kid at the dance, who’ll try their luck with just about anybody.

According to The Express, Manchester United are weighing up a surprise move for Paul Pogba. That’s right, the same Paul Pogba who left Old Trafford back in 2012 as part of a free transfer. He’s now making a real name for himself at Juventus where he’s managed to accrue a startling £77m price-tag.

That’s a staggering amount of cash. It’s also evidence of how bad a decision it was for the club to let him go all those months back. He’s now widely regarded as one of the best young midfielders in the game. He’s physically tough, he works extremely hard and he’s difficult to hustle off the ball. More than that, however, he’s technically astute and he can make things happen in the final third.

He made 51 appearances for Juve last season and found the back of the net 9 times. This year he’s made 15 appearances for the Serie A side and has 4 goals to his name already. He’s an extremely effective individual.

It’s hard to justify that bizarre £77m price-tag, but there’s no doubting his ability. He has the potential to blossom into a Gareth Bale level talent in the near future (he’s only 21-years-old, after all), but he’s not quite there yet.

If Louis Van Gaal can negotiate his price-tag down towards the £50m level, then this would strike me as a deal worth making. Still, you have to ask yourself the following question: does Paul Pogba even want to return back to Manchester United?

What’s your take? Will Paul Pogba ever put on a Manchester United shirt again? Is the Frenchman’s price-tag exorbitant?
