Radja Nainggolan (Roma)How does Belgium, a nation of approximately 11 million people, keep producing such bizarrely talented footballers? Why do they get Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku, whilst England end up with James Milner and Jermaine Defoe? It doesn’t seem fair.

Well, there’s a new Belgian ace to add to the long-list. He’s got an awesome name too: Radja Nainggolan. Spell checks at the ready!

The 26-year-old currently plies his trade for Roma. He’s also managed to accrue 8 caps for the Belgian international team. His reputation continues to grow and grow. There’s a good chance that he’s going to become a recognised star over the next couple of years. A move to the Premier League could even materialise.

This brings me to The Express‘s claim that Liverpool hope to sign Nainggolan, despite the player’s complex contractual situation. To reduce this story to its basics, it’s thought that £20m could be enough for Brendan Rodgers to drag this deal across the line.

This kind of fee would represent a significant chunk of Liverpool’s January transfer window budget. If Brendan Rodgers is serious about sealing the deal then he must be a huge fan of the Belgian ace.

It would also call into question the role of players like Emre Can and Lucas Leivas. With Can still struggling to make an impact at Anfield and Leivas getting on in years, perhaps signing another midfield battler would be a good decision.

Nainggolan is a no-nonsense midfielder who works extremely hard for his team. He’ll run all game, break up play whenever necessary and maintain possession whenever possible. He’s a smart cookie who makes good decisions and helps his side to see out games.

He strikes me as the kind of player who would be a great fit for a Premier League side. Liverpool will have to spend their money wisely this January, but I certainly wouldn’t be disappointed to see Brendan Rodgers sign up this particular Belgian talent.

What’s your take? Is Radja Nianggolan a good option for The Reds? Who should Brendan Rodgers look to sign this January?
