Emanuel EmenikeTottenham Football Club hit a major roadblock when they sold Gareth Bale (for a huge sum of cash) and tried to replace his goals with Roberto Soldado’s introduction to the club. At the time, it looked like a good move. After all, the Spaniard had an excellent record whilst he was still playing in La Liga.

But truth be told, Soldado has been a huge flop. He hasn’t adapted well to English football and he’s struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.

Unfortunately, Spurs don’t have too many other options. Emmanuel Adebayor looks like he’s on his way out of the club, so Harry Kane has been forced to handle the brunt of Tottenham’s attacking endeavour. He’s done a good job, but Mauricio Pochettino needs to provide him with some support.

As it happens, Spurs have been linked to a lot of different strikers this January. It’s going to be interesting to see who’s brought in.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Tottenham are closing in on deal for Fenerbahce’s hot-shot striker, Emmanuel Emenike. That’s the same Emenike who was the subject of a failed £16m Chelsea bid last summer.

With the aforementioned source claiming that Spurs have only offered the Turkish side £7.8m, Pochettino and co. may be well on the way to a bargain. What’s more, it looks like there’s truth to these rumours. Check out these comments from the player’s agent, Erdem Konyar:

‘Tottenham have really only one striker right now so it is not a surprise that they are interested.’

Well spoken, Konyar. He’s absolutely right. Given Emenike’s price-tag and his goal-scoring record (25 goals in 40 games for Fenerbahce and 36 goals in 42 games for Spartak Moscow), this deal looks like a no-brainer for Tottenham.

Whether it brings them back into contention for a Champions League slot remains to be seen, but it’ll certainly stand them in good stead.

What’s your take? Is Emmanuel Emenike the perfect strike-partner for Harry Kane? Who else should Mauricio Pochettino be looking at?

Why do people who write this stuff always have to start with events that happened two or three years ago? It is really tiresome. I never get beyond the first two or three paragraphs.

  • Brian says:

They should just sign Charlie Austin, who would also be a bargain, but with a strong EPL record so far. Let’s not get another striker with no EPL experience.
