fabian delphWhat a year Fabian Delph is having. Whilst Aston Villa are struggling, he continues to be their stand-out performer. More importantly, he’s started to make in-roads into the England team. In September 2014, he came on as a 69th minute substitute for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as The Three Lions beat Norway 1-0.

A few days later he started in England’s 2-0 away victory over Switzerland (and put in a mighty fine display in the process).

Thus far this season Fabian Delph has played 33 times for Aston Villa. At 25-years-old, he seems to have hit the best form of his career. It may not be too long until another club comes along and snaps him up.

Liverpool certainly seem to be interested. Brendan Rodgers has been linked with a move for the English midfielder since last summer. Could he finally be about to pull the trigger on this deal before the January transfer window slams shut?

The Metro claim that The Reds could seal a deal for Fabian Delph, but only if they’re willing to put up £4m. This doesn’t seem all that unreasonable to me. I’d argue that the mooted figure is actually below Delph’s fair market value. This is particularly true given the fact that the player has recently agreed a new contract with his current paymasters. Now Aston Villa really do have no reason to let him go, unless they’re made an offer they can’t refuse.

Brendan Rodgers is famed for his transfer window bargains. If he pursues this line of activity he could well end up with one more to his name.

Lazar Markovic continues to improve on a game-by-game basis, but it strikes me that The Reds could still use another option in this part of the pitch. Too many times this season they’ve struggled to break down staunch Premier League defenses.

A player like Fabian Delph could help them to overcome this difficulty. With Delph on one side, Raheem Sterling down the other and Daniel Sturridge down the centre, The Reds are sure to have a little more about them going forward.

Let’s just hope that The Reds have £4m spare.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool still be interested in signing Fabian Delph? Is he worth £4m?

    What a load of claptrap.
The guy has just signed a new deal with Villa and given his sincere reasons for doing so, and you still think he’s available in the January transfer window.

  • Dan says:

    More like. 40m

  • Higstar says:

Did you read the date on the Metro article? It was written before the new contract.

    This is drivel

  • Bill says:

So if it’s in the Mails freesheet it’s true. BR has not the slightest interest in Delph, he’s searching for a striker and a keeper but not too hard.

  • domingo says:

£4m lol . he has just signed a new contract so this article is a joke .

  • Bamuk says:

&4miillion when he has just signed a 4 1/2 year
    Contract that’s just lazy journalism

  • MFD says:

Uh…you do realise he signed a new 4 and a half year contract last week right?

  • Phil says:

He wouldn’t even have been sold for £4 million but he was supposedly a bargain because his contract was expiring in 6 months. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know that his contract now expires in summer 2019 (53 months).

  • convilla says:

he’s just signed a 4.5year deal to stay at Villa.
not even that recently! a week ago now!
4mil was the fee with 6months left on the contract lol.

  • Paul Lambert says:

Ehh… he’s just signed a new 4 year contract at Villa Park. So jog on with your lazy journalism… .you PRAT!

  • mark says:

What a lazy, ill informed piece of work. £4m would be enough to get his boots. the writer of this article obviously does not know Delph has signed 4.5 year contract.

  • deanovillain says:

What a stupid, pointless article. Delph has signed a new deal and clearly want to stay. Derrrrrrr

  • Paul Messenger says:

May well have got him for £4m before he signed a 4 year contract but they missed the boat.
Might get him now for £20m which if my memory serves me right would be the same amount these thicko’s paid for Stewart Downing. What do they say “Once bitten twice shy”

  • Chris flatley says:

More like this is not Football useless article they have no Football knowledge just signed a new deal do your research thicko

  • Steve says:

Who ever wrote this article (duno if u can even call this rubbish an article) is obviously very thick. 4million pounds??? Try 24million mate! New 4.5 year contract… Think about it buddy! And anyway if Delph did want to leave it would b to a chumps league club which IS NOT Liverpool! Keep dreaming!!! UTV

  • Macca says:

A move to the dizzying heights of seventh placed Liverpool or stick it out with Villa? Stick with Villa. Villa tend to only sell players if they want to sell them. They clearly don’t want to sell Delph to anyone which makes this article completely redundant. Was it written by a wishful Liverpool fan by any chance?

  • Richard says:

This article is utter rubbish. If you think Villa would sell Delph for 4 million then you need to never ever write about football again. You should probably give up journalism altogether.

  • paul says:

What t##t wrote this c##p have you been on mars? new contract. why would they let him go to for 4 mil? take up star gazeing i would
