MarquinhosIn Manchester United’s search for a new defender, Louis Van Gaal needs to make sure that he signs a top class talent. After all, he’s effectively replacing the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, two players who essentially blossomed into legends during their time at Old Trafford. Those are some pretty big boots to fill.

That doesn’t mean that Van Gaal needs to go out and sign an experienced footballer. He doesn’t necessarily need a complete defender like Mats Hummels. He needs a player who’s going to be a part of his defense for the next decade. He needs a talent for now and the future.

This brings me to The Metro‘s exciting claim that Manchester United have already opened up talks with Paris Saint Germain to sign one of their star defenders (they have a few), Marquinhos. At just 20-years-old, this youngster is already recognized as one of the best young centre-backs in the game. He’s up there with Raphael Varane when it comes to defensive prodigies.

Unfortunately, he’s fallen behind David Luiz in the pecking order in Paris. His route to the first team looks a little complicated at the moment. With this in mind, Laurent Blanc may well be prepared to sell him. The Metro note that Marquinhos cost PSG £30m back in 2013. They won’t want to make a loss on the player, so they’ll probably try and sell for a similar fee.

The Red Devils spent big in the summer, but they’re still financially stable. With that in mind, let’s hope that the top brass are willing to open up their wallets once again. This Brazilian ace is a true marvel. He’s nippy, he’s smart and he’s physically tough.

I can see him taking to the Premier League with consummate ease, so why shouldn’t he be given a chance to prove himself?

What’s your take? Is Marquinhos the perfect solution for The Red Devils?
