Xherdan Shaqiri (Switzerland):Liverpool have been linked to Bayern Munich’s Xherdan Shaqiri for quite some time now. Given that he’s not getting a fair look in within Pep Guardiola’s side, a move to the Premier League does seem like a smart choice.

Unfortunately, not everybody feels this way. Former Swiss international, Kubilay Turkyilmaz, had these words of advice to offer to his compatriot:

“England would suit Shaq more. They are less obsessed with tactics there, but a move to Liverpool right now could not be more unsuitable.”

“They are in a crisis and cannot really have any ambitions this year. Joining them from Bayern, who expect to win titles every season, would be a culture shock.” (Source: The Express)

Turkyilmaz then goes on to suggest that moving to Atletico Madrid would be a better move. With Real Madrid currently proving to be unstoppable, I’d argue that Liverpool and Atletico offer just about equal chances of silverware, but there you go.

I certainly hope that Shaqiri doesn’t look to ex-players like Kubilay Turkyilmaz for career advice. The Reds may not be in the best form at the moment, but they’re certainly not down and out. They’re still capable of the occasional top-drawer performance, they’re just remarkably inconsistent.

A player like Shaqiri could help Liverpool to be a more established side. He’s no Luis Suarez, but he could still have a major impact at Anfield.

Besides, Xherdan Shaqiri shouldn’t be focusing on winning trophies – not at this stage in his career. At 23-years-old, he’s still go plenty of time to do that sort of thing. Right now, what’s more important than just about anything else, is game time.

If Shaqiri wants to maximise his potential and unlock his full ability, he needs to be playing regularly. As he’s not doing this at Bayern Munich, it strikes me that he’d be well served by moving to Liverpool. It’s not like Brendan Rodgers would have much cause to leave him out of his side.

According to Goal.com, Shaqiri could be available for around £15m. That’s a fair price for a real star. Let’s just hope that he’s willing to join Brendan Rodger’s long-term project.

What’s your take? What’s the next logical step in Xherdan Shaqiri’s career?
