Liverpool have been slow to show their ambition in the January transfer window, but it looks like things are going to heat up significantly before the window slams shut. Could Brendan Rodgers have a few surprises left in him?
I certainly hope so. The Reds are in desperate need of one or two new additions to round out some of the weaker areas of their squad. If they don’t bring any body else in they’re in danger of falling behind in the race for a top four finish.
According to The Metro, Brendan Rodgers is eyeing up a couple of major deals. The first is for Real Madrid’s superstar striker, Karim Benzema, who’s got a mammoth £38m price-tag. The second man is also a striker: Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette. It’s believed that he would cost £25m.
Together this French duo would cost £63m. What a statement of intent that would be from Liverpool football club. They would go from having too few option upfront to having too many. With Benzema, Lacazette and Daniel Sturridge leading The Reds’ front-line, they’re sure to carry plenty of threat going forward.
Just look at their respective goal-scoring records. Lacazette has got 23 goals to his name this season and he’s only played 23 games. That’s a perfect strike-rate. How many strikers can boast a similar return?
Benzema certainly can’t, but he’s got a little more experience. In fact, the Frenchman has been at Real Madrid for six seasons now. During that time he’s played in 265 professional games and has found the back of the net 126 times. He truly is a deadly force in front of goal.
Whether The Reds can really afford to sign both Benzema and Lacazette is up for debate. Brendan Rodgers spent a lot of money last summer after all. If Liverpool can find the cash, however, this double-deal could help them to compete towards the top of the Premier League table once again.

Of course they can’t. Liverpool are broke as far as spending on player purchases are concerned. All this month ( and before ) a tremendous load of waffle has been spewed out on who is coming and doing so immediately this window arrived. FSG are not spending money on this team and definitely not through this manager.
