Marcelo BrozovicArsenal are currently believed to be on the hunt for defensive talent (and boy do they need it), but they also can’t seem to stop picking up links to attacking talent. Arsene Wenger does have a reputation for favouring that part of the pitch after all.

One name that seems to keep popping up belongs to Dinamo Zagreb’s young play-making talent, Marcelo Brozovic. The 22-year-old is often compared to Luka Modric, thanks to his comfort on the ball, his speed of thought and his range of passing.

The amount of talent that he has displayed at a young age is notable. The signs are there that he’s got a huge future ahead of him, should he continue to develop at his current pace. Perhaps he’ll go on to be as good as Modric himself? We live in hope.

According to The Metro, The Gunners have made a £6m bid for the Croatian ace. It’s thought that AC Milan are also interested, but the source claims that ‘Arsenal now look likely to get their man’. Things seem to be moving pretty quickly.

Fans may be frustrated that this isn’t a defensive signing, but I could see Brozovic slotting in in the holding role whilst Mikel Arteta is out injured. Indeed, with the Spaniard out for three months, this looks like the perfect time for the 22-year-old to move to The Emirates.

He’s sure to be given a fair amount of game-time and he’ll be playing alongside some of the very best attacking midfielders in world football. I’m sure he’ll relish the opportunity to fire long-balls into the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott as well.

Whether he’ll provide Arsenal’s back four with the protection it sorely needs remains to be seen, but hopefully Arsene Wenger has other plans in place to deal with this problematic part of the pitch.

Either way, a deal for Marcelo Brozovic looks like a smart piece of business.

What’s your take? Do The Gunners really need Marcelo Brozovic? Should Arsene Wenger have other priorities?
