Manchester United have made some major additions to their ranks over the last two-or-so years, but it looks like they’re still on the hunt for more talent. The Red Devils are on financially solid ground and can afford to compete for the world’s best footballers. Given their current place in the Premier League table, why wouldn’t Louis Van Gaal want to snap up some fresh blood?
I’m sure he’ll have been interested to read these comments from one of Belgian football’s best midfielders. The man in question is Axel Witsel (great name), who’s currently playing his football with Zenit St. Petersburg. As it happens, Axel doesn’t see himself staying in Russia for the rest of his career:
‘I want to play in one of the top clubs in Europe one day. It’s true that I like the Premier League, because it is one of the best leagues in the world, for me, together with Germany and Spain. It is a very good league, it is a crazy league. A lot of my colleagues play there, but we will see. I am still young, only 26. We‘ll see in the future.’
But wait, here’s the kicker for Manchester United fans:

Given Witsel’s reputation, these comments strike me as very interesting indeed. The Belgian ace is known for his technique, his comfort on the ball and his versatility. He’s a tough, physical presence, but he’s also capable of moments of grace and brilliance. He’s the kind of player who looks like a good fit for the Premier League.
This explains why The Express have slapped a £30m price-tag on the 26-year-old. He’s the real deal.
How great would it be to have both Axel Witsel and Marouane Fellaini playing at the same club? I’d love to see Louis Van Gaal make this happen. If he’s on the hunt for more midfield talent, perhaps this is the man to target.
