Sergio Romero - Argentinian (25) (GK) Paid - £6,750,000With the January transfer window fast approaching, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of budget Brendan Rodgers is given. The Liverpool boss spent a lot of cash in the summer, but there’s still a lot of work to be done to this squad. If The Reds are to drag themselves back into contention, they’re going to need to spend a healthy chunk of cash.

Rodger’s two main priorities should be signing a striker to ease the pressure on Mario Balotelli and to sign a keeper to stop the likes of Simon Mignolet and Brad Jones from getting first team action. If he can do this, Liverpool will likely be much improved in the second half of the season.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that The Reds have their eyes on two Argentine footballers: Sergio Romero and Paulo Dybala. Romero is a goalkeeper, whilst Dybala is a striker, so this looks like a good fit for Liverpool.

Dybala is an extremely exciting young player who’s been scoring goals regularly for Palermo in Serie A this year. He’s earned comparisons to players like Sergio Aguero (perhaps mostly because they share the same nationality), so if Liverpool can get their hands on him now, they’re likely end up with one hell of a player in the future. This would be a very exciting move for the club.

The Romero deal would be slightly less expensive, but equally important. He currently plays for Sampdoria, where he’s earned a reputation for being a safe pair of hands. He’s a good shot-stopper, he commands his area well and his distribution is quick and accurate. He would likely end up being a significant improvement over Simon Mignolet.

At the very least, he should up the level of competition in this area of the pitch, which should, in turn, draw better performances out of everyone else.

These two deals would eat up a significant portion of The Reds’ money, but they do look rather utilitarian.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Sergio Romero and Paulo Dybala in Liverpool shirts?
