GiovincoArsene Wenger’s main priority next month will be sorting out his defense, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him bolster his attacking options. The Professor has always been one to overload his attack at the expense of his defense, so I don’t see why this January will be any different.

Besides, there has to be a reason why The Gunners keep picking up links to Juventus’s well regarded winger/striker, Sebatian Giovinco.

In his first season at Juve back in 2012/13, Giovinco was a major force. He made 42 appearances for his new club and found the back of the net 11 times. The season following this he made just 30 appearances and this year he’s only made 7 appearances, some of which were as a substitute.

He’s not a nailed on starter in Turin, which has led some sources to link him with a move away from his current club. As ever, Arsenal’s name has popped up. The papers have even managed to get a quote from the player’s agent, Andrea D’Amico, on this very topic:

‘Giovinco to Arsenal? At the moment only Juventus can negotiate with him, later on however things can change since he has an expiring contract. I haven’t met many times with Juventus, on our end we have always been open to it.’ (Source: The Metro)

In other words, Arsenal’s interest at this stage isn’t very concrete. But that’s not to say that things wont change in the future. Giovinco is 27-years-old now, so he really should be enjoying the peak years of his career. It looks like Juve can’t offer him the game time he deserves. Maybe The Gunners could?

Giovinco’s versatile, he’s a good dribbler, he can pick out a pass and he can get in behind. He’s small (he’s even been nicknamed ‘the atomic ant’), but he’s effective. If he’s available for the right price, then he’s worth signing.

What’s your take? Do The Gunners need to sign any more attacking players? Is Sebastian Giovinco an option that’s worth considering?
