Paulo DybalaIt must be a thoroughly depressing time to be an Arsenal fan. Results just aren’t going their way at the moment (performances aren’t great, either) and the infighting that this is creating amongst fans is blossoming into something a little bit unhealthy.

There’s always been some disparity between those who want Arsene Wenger to be given his marching orders and those who want to stand by the Frenchman. Whilst I understand that recent results (the Anderlecht game, Manchester United game and Stoke City game stand out) make it difficult to back The Professor, there’s also very little that the club can do about it right in the middle of the season.

Arsenal are very unlikely to switch managers before the end of the season (even then, they’re unlikely to cut ties with Wenger). With that in mind, the best anybody can do is support their team through thick and thin and hope that their club makes some major changes during the January transfer window.

This brings me to an interesting article published by The Metro which suggests that Arsenal have their eyes on Paulo Dybala, a young striker who plays for Palermo in Serie A. The 21-year-old has earned comparisons to Manchester City hot-shot, Sergio Aguero thanks to his pace, his technique and his finishing ability in the final third.

He recently scored a goal against Torino where he flicked the ball over a defender with the outside of his boot, took a few steps and then volleyed it past the keeper from a difficult angle. He really is a sensational talent. He’s scored 7 goals in 15 games for Palermo this season, which is a great return for a youngster.

The aforementioned source claims that Dybala could cost The Gunners as much as £30m. That sum may make Arsene Wenger shudder in fear, but I’d argue that it’s time for him to show some ambition. The fans are really on his back at the moment and it’s only by adding additional talent to his team that he’s going to shake them off.

Let’s hope he’s ready to rise to the occasion during the January transfer window.

What’s your take? Is Paulo Dybala a good target for The Gunners?
