LedesmaTwo wins on the trot for Arsenal against Borussia Dortmund and West Brom may well have put this club back on the pathway to success. Defeats and draws to clubs like Anderlecht, Swansea City and Manchester United had knocked the wind out of The Gunners sails in quite a  major way.

Luckily Arsene Wenger looks fully prepared to turn things around. Now he just needs to figure our how to overcome his team’s injury crisis. Perhaps then his team would be able to compete for silverware once again.

Without Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta running The Gunners’ midfield, this team are going to be an entirely different prospect. Players like Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey can move the ball about slickly, but they’re not exactly battlers. They’re not players you can rely on to slam into tackles and to break up opposition play.

The same cannot be said of Lazio veteran Cristian Ledesma, who I would argue is one of football’s great all rounders.

He may only have one cap for the Italian international side, but he has made more than 290 appearances for Lazio. He’s been a mainstay in the Italian’s team since 2006. Now that he’s 32-years-old, he’s no longer a spring-chicken, but he’s still got plenty of get-up and go left in him.

Ledesma likes to play deep, usually just in front of the back-four, controlling play, keeping possession and taking pot-shots wherever possible. He’s never been a regular goal-scorer, but he has been more than capable of chipping in over the years.

The Metro recently ran an article that carried quotes from the player’s agent, Vincenzo D’Ippolito, who spoke out about Ledesma’s future and name-checked The Gunners: ‘It is true, Arsenal are interested in Cristian. ‘There have been scouts, we’ll see if there will be an opportunity to examine an offer.’

It certainly sounds like it’s worth Arsene Wenger testing the water with a January bid. The Gunners could well end up with a player who’s capable of making a major impact over the coming months.

What’s your take? Would Cristian Ledesma get into Arsenal’s current first team? Is he a worthy transfer target?
