Cuadrado1The Red Devils’ 3-0 win over their old rivals, Liverpool, could well act as a turning point for Louis Van Gaal and co. They have been securing the results they need in recent weeks, but the performances weren’t great. This was one of the few occasions this season where Manchester United played well and got the result they deserved.

Fans will hope that Manchester United will continue to build on this performance and that they start climbing back up the Premier League table. After a slow start to the season, they’ve finally hit their stride.

But what’s it going to take to keep the momentum up? With the January transfer window fast approaching, it strikes me that there is a simple solution: Van Gaal needs to make another signing or two. He needs to strengthen his defense and add a little more cut-and-thrust to his midfield.

This brings me to The Express‘s claim that Manchester United are ‘closing in’ on Colombian ace, Juan Cuadrado. They were linked strongly to 26-year-old in the summer, but a deal never came to fruition. Could they finally be about to get their man a few months on?

Last season, Cuadrado made 43 appearances for Fiorentina and scored 15 goals. This year he’s played 17 times and has 4 goals to his name. He’s clearly very effective in the final third on his day. This must surely be why the aforementioned source has slapped a £30m price-tag on the player’s head.

But that same source also suggests that Old Trafford is Cuadrado’s ‘preferred destination’. As things currently stand, this looks like United’s deal to lose. If Louis Van Gaal really is interested, all he needs to do is convince the Manchester United hierarchy to release the cash necessary.

I only hope that the club has enough money left over to sort out their back-four. If they can do that as well, then The Red Devils really will be cooking on gas.

What’s your take? Is Juan Cuadrado really a good option for Manchester United? Should they have other priorities?

I don‘t think it is necessary to sing Cuadrado because Lvg need to sing defensive midfielder and a central defender but not a winger for now.
