These season hasn’t been easy for Arsenal fans. Just when they may have thought that their side was back in form (following three victories on the trot), they went and conceded 3 first half goals against a rampant Stoke City side. Sure, they battled back to 3-2, but they didn’t have enough fight to secure a point, let alone the victory that they really need.
At the moment The Gunners are so far behind the pace that it’s beginning to get a little embarrassing. Given the personnel that they’re able to call upon, shouldn’t they be doing a bit better. Shouldn’t they be doing a lot better?
Whilst fixing their defense needs to be prioritised, I’d argue that every area of their squad could do with some strengthening. I’d even include their attack, which many feel is the strongest part of Arsene Wenger’s team. If you saw the way that Olivier Giroud was bullied by Stoke City’s centre-backs, you’d probably feel the same way.
This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal are hot on the trail of Real Madrid’s superstar striker, Karim Benzema. The Frenchman is among the top strikers in European football, so it’s good to see that this club has got some ambition left. With the club raising ticket prices, whilst simultaneously offering diminishing returns on the pitch, it’s clear that they need to do something.
The source suggests that Carlo Ancelotti is prepared to let Karim Benzema go if somebody comes in and offers the right fee: £30m. That’s a huge amount of money, but Arsenal do need to make big signings in the near future. Patience is wearing extremely thin.
Benzema’s goal-scoring record is very impressive. In 256 games for Madrid, he’s found the back of the net 124 times. He’s played 21 times this season and he’s scored 13 goals, so he remains in good form. It’s easy enough to see why Arsene Wenger might be interested. Let’s just hope he’s prepared to take a proper swing at this deal.
