Not so long ago, in the summer of 2013, Manchester United were heavily linked to Sao Paulo star, Lucas Moura. Of course, that was back in the halcyon days where Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge. Things were a lot better back then, eh?
But even Sir Alex was capable of missing out on a player in the transfer market. Moura ended up at Paris Saint Germain as part of a mammoth £45m deal. The Red Devils were left wondering what could have been.
Since his move to Paris, the Brazilian ace has offered mixed resturns. In his first full season at his new club, he played 53 times (which shows that his manager backed him to the hilt), but he only scored 5 goals. Luckily, he seems to be coming into his own this season. He’s played 18 times this year and he’s already found the back of the net 6 times.
He’s still improving, but he’s only 22-years-old. It’s exciting to picture how good he could end up being over the course of his next big contract. He could go on to be a world-beater.
Well here’s where things get interesting. According to The Express, PSG have been hawking Moura all around Europe. The source suggests that he’s been offered to Barcelona (who are currently under a major transfer embargo, so that doesn’t seem like a smart move). What’s more, it’s thought that Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and, yes, Manchester United have all been alerted and have varying degrees of interest.
Could The Red Devils finally be about to get their hands on this long-term target? Could Louis Van Gaal be about to do what Sir Alex Ferguson couldn’t?
The only way I can see this deal coming to pass is if PSG are prepared to take a hit on the £45m that they spent on Moura a few years back. The fact that they’re willing to put him in the shop window is very promising indeed. It suggests that they would be willing to do a deal with any interested clubs. It’s certainly worth an enquiry.
