Pedro RodriguezPedro has been a one club man throughout his career, playing first for Barcelona C, then Barcelona B and then, finally, the Barcelona first team. He made 2 appearances for the Spanish powerhouse back in 2007/08, 14 appearances the next year and from then on in, he’s been a regular presence in this team.

Since 2010, he’s never made less than 45 appearances in a season for his team. He’s been a vital cog for Barcelona and he hasn’t suffered any major injury set-backs along the way. This has helped him to develop at a pace and as a result, he’s slowly blossomed into one of the best wingers in world football.

Last year he played 54 times and found the back of the net 19 times. That’s evidence of how effective he can be in the final third. This season he’s made 21 appearances already, but many of those were as a substitute. There are some concerns that the presence of players like Luis Suarez and Neymar is going to severely limit his playing time over the coming years.

The Metro even claims that he’s had a falling out with Barca boss Luis Enrique, which could lead to ‘a switch to the Premier League’. The source lines up both Arsenal and Liverpool as potential destinations.

Arsenal are pretty well stocked down the flanks (especially with Theo Walcott returning from injury), but it strikes me that Liverpool are a little light in this area. Their midfield has looked a lot less threatening this season and a player like Pedro could help to shake things up a little bit.

His goal-scoring record alone will help Liverpool to make their way back up the Premier League table.

Unfortunately for Brendan Rodgers and co., he’s not going to come cheap. Established talent rarely does. The aforementioned source claims that he could cost as much as £26m. Having spent big in the summer, it’s not clear whether The Reds can still afford to sign a player like Pedro. I will certainly be keeping my fingers crossed.

What’s your take? Should Brendan Rodgers take Arsene Wenger on in a battle to sign Pedro?
