Watching Arsenal in action is enough to produce vertigo in a person. There are so many ups and downs within a season that it’s hard to draw any real conclusions from their displays. Just when you think Arsene Wenger is down and out, he goes and pulls a great result out of the bag.
He followed up an embarrassing 3-2 defeat by Stoke City with an effortless 4-1 victory over Galatasaray (away from home, no less). The 2-1 defeat by Manchester United was answered with wins over Borussia Dortmund, West Brom and Southampton.
That being said there have been, to put things quite simply, too many blotches in Arsenal’s copybook this season. This squad still isn’t strong enough to compete for the Premier League title. It’ll take a minor miracle for them to catch up with Chelsea at this stage.
Still, that’s no reason not to try. Arsenal fans will be hoping that their manager shows some major ambition during the January transfer window. He has to do something to turn things around, after all.
This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal are set to sign Cruzeiro’s ace young midfielder, Lucas Silva next month. At just 21-years-old, the Brazilian has already started to earn comparisons to Kaka. He’s a quick thinker, he’s technically astute and he’s good enough to make things happen in the final third. He could well blossom into a very special player indeed.
As a result, Real Madrid’s interest has been piqued. The aforementioned source claims that Carlo Ancelotti and co. have already allocated Silva a shirt number (16). Despite this Arsenal are thought to be favourites. They’ve had an £11.9m bid accepted and it may not be too long before this deal is wrapped up.
It’s nice to see The Gunners go head-t0-head with Real Madrid and come up trumps. Arsene Wenger has suffered many indignities over the last few months, but he looks to have got all his ducks in a row this time around. Maybe it’s time for The Professor to allocate Silva the number he’ll wear on his Arsenal shirt over the coming years?

it would be nice if arsenal could sign him, but there are so many transfer rumours and usually 95% of these are false. however is silver a defensive mid fielder which is what I believe arsenal need most urgently?
