Arsenal in talks to sign want-away £30m ace: is Wenger making the right choice?

|

MoutinhoAt the start of the season Arsenal looked to be strongest in the centre of the park. Arsene Wenger has always tried to ram this particular area with as much talent as possible and this year has been no different. When everybody’s fit, The Gunners can call upon a wealth of different options.

But that’s exactly the problem. When it comes to Arsenal, fitness is always an issue. To expect Arsene Wenger’s side to go more than a week or two without picking up an injury is foolish indeed. At the moment, The Professor is missing options like Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta and others. Those three players would walk into more or less any Premier League team’s starting line-up.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, it’s only natural that The Gunners would start to pick up links to potential fill-in options. As it happens, The Metro have managed to cook up one hell of a rumour.

According to the source, Arsenal have already held talks with the agent of Monaco’s fabulous midfielder, Joao Moutinho. If The Gunners manage to get their hands on this Portuguese ace, they’ll be in a significantly stronger position as they move forth into the second half of the season.

It’s thought that Moutinho has grown sick of French football (he currently plays for Ligue 1 side Monaco) and that he’s handed in a transfer request. Even so, he’s not going to come cheap. The aforementioned source claims that Arsenal could snap him up for about £30m.

At 28-years-old, he’s no spring chicken, but his experience could well work in Arsenal’s favour. Besides, he’s still young enough to replace the aging Mikel Arteta. With that in mind, it’s easy to see why Arsene Wenger may seek to close this particular deal.

Let’s just hope that he also brings in a couple of defenders as well.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal really be interested in Joao Moutinho? Do they have other priorities?
