or the last 12-18 months, The Red Devils have been strongly linked to Roma’s star midfielder, Kevin Strootman. Unfortunately, The Dutchman has been nursing an injury for the last few months, which prevented a deal from going through this summer. But now that he’s on the road to recovery, there’s nothing to stop Louis Van Gaal from closing the deal during the January transfer window.
After all, it’s not like Manchester United’s midfield is particularly strong, is it? Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera are all good attacking footballers, but they lack the defensive nous necessary to win silverware. They don’t track back often enough, they leave gaps in the centre-of-the-park and (Fellaini aside), they don’t have the physicality necessary to compete with the Premier League’s tougher footballers.
Kevin Strootman, on the other hand, has the steel and resolve necessary to transform this Manchester United side. After all, he has been labelled the Dutch Roy Keane. What more do you need to know before realising that his future lies at Old Trafford?
According to The Metro, Louis Van Gaal has spoken to Roma officials, hands have been shaken and deals have been agreed. It’s thought that the £25m deal will go through this January. Things seem to be moving quickly don’t they?
This is all great news for Manchester United fans. Kevin Strootman will arrive at Old Trafford some time in the near future and he’ll provide some major competition for Daley Blind. With the two Dutchmen sitting in front of United’s back-four, they’re going to prove extremely difficult to break down.
This defensive stability could even help The Red Devils to function from an attacking perspective. In other words, he’d offer plenty of value for money for his £25m price-tag. Let’s just hope that there’s truth to the tabloid’s claims. This could be a major step forward for Manchester United.

Let us just believe that what we are hearing about stroothman is truth we all know that he his a best player and he will be a very good signing for us
This is good news tho…but Manutd should properly assess Strootman’s knee in order not to add to our injury woes…plus Maybe James Wilson should either be giveb more first team action or be loaned out to a Mid-table EpL team
25 Million? The president of Roma was quoted a few months back of valuing Strootman at 75 million. And it was done in a sarcastic way to outline his huge value.. his monetray and quality value to Roma.. So if you are now all of a sudden going to belive that they are going to sell him for 25 million, you are setting yourself up for disappointment… remember Vidal?
75m is wishful thinking man. Roma bought Strootman for about 15m pounds. I bet they accept 35m – 40m pounds. Providing he’s fit, I’m sure LVG lodges a bid in the summer. Not sure about January. Not enough time to prove his fitness.
Took the words right out of my mouth! What a load of nonsense. The dumb Roma president not to long ago put a ridiculous £75 million pound asking price for any interesting party, who wants sit down and talk about a (then) one legged Strootman! Now, Strootman is back in action again. How the hell would £25 million secure the services of his two legs when Roma want £75 million for one, unless Strootman has lost both of his legs and we have just secured his top body and are about to hold a big party!
