DestroWith Lukas Podolski growing increasingly frustrated with his lack of game-time at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger faces a tough decision: play him or sell him.

There’s no natural role for him in his first team, but there’s no doubting his goal-scoring credentials. The German ace is one of the best finishers in the game and he’s managed to put in a couple of good cameos already this year.

If he’s willing to remain patient, I’m sure he’ll be given an opportunity to break back into Arsene Wenger’s starting XI.

Yet according to The Express, Arsene Wenger has already lined up a replacement for Lukas Podolski. Things move fast in football, don’t they? The German ace is barely out the door yet and we’re already talking about Arsenal’s next recruit.

The aforementioned source suggests that The Professor has his eyes on Roma star, Mattia Destro. He’s got a name like a comic book villain, but is he the right man for the job?

That’s a tough call. There’s no doubting that he’s capable of greatness. He’s scored 22 goals in 49 appearances for Roma. Unfortunately he’s rather lost his way in recent times and his place in the team has been usurped by Francesco Totti (that’s some tough competition!).

It’s also worth noting that he’s still only 23-years-old. He’s got many years left ahead of him in his playing career and he’s going to continue to improve and develop for at least another half decade. If he’s good now, he’s going to get even better over the course of his next contract.

As a result, he’s managed to earn a £20m price-tag. Whether this fee would turn Arsenal away remains to be seen.

I can only hope that Arsene Wenger is willing to roll the dice on this one. With Lukas Podolski on his way out, Arsenal will need additional quality in this area of the pitch. Spending big will simply help to highlight Arsenal’s ambition.

Then we just need to wait and see if The Professor also has his eyes on a defender or two.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal be interested in this struggling Serie A star?
