Seydou Doumbia (CSKA Moscow)Things aren’t going Liverpool’s way at the moment and I have to say, it’s hard to lay the blame on Brendan Rodgers. Whilst Arsene Wenger and Louis Van Gaal both neglected to spend on their defense during the summer (and are now paying the price), Brendan spent smartly (or so it seemed at the time), but he’s still managed to come up short.

Who could have foreseen Mario Balotelli struggling to make his mark on such a grand scale? The man has Premier League experience (and he’s a fully fledged international star), but he’s made minimal impact during his time at Anfield. He’s slow, selfish and clumsy. Fans may be hoping that he manages to turn things around, but I certainly won’t be holding my breath.

With all this in mind, there’s a good chance that Brendan Rodgers will take to the January transfer window this January in an attempt to rectify the situation. Let’s just hope that the club’s hierarchy are willing to splash some cash.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Liverpool are preparing to duke it out with Chelsea for CSKA Moscow’s highly regarded striker, Seydou Doumbia. This Ivorian ace has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a number of years now. Could The Reds finally make it happen?

The 26-year-old is certainly worth looking at. In 124 appearances for his Russian league side, he’s managed to find the back of the net 83 times. Yes, Russian football isn’t quite as challenging, but there’s little doubt that he’s a natural goal-scorer.

He would also provide Liverpool with a genuine physical presence and this will help him to fit in easily in the Premier League.

With The Metro suggesting that he could be available for as little as £15m (a reasonable fee for a man with his goal-scoring record), I wouldn’t be surprised if Brendan Rodgers were interested. Let’s just hope that he’s still got some money left over following his summer of spending.

What’s your take? Should The Reds make a move for Seydou Doumbia?
