Juan Mata may have grabbed a winner against Crystal Palace last weekend, but the jury remains out on whether he’s got any real future at Old Trafford. He’s a player who offered so much for Chelsea, so it’s somewhat surprising how difficult he’s found it to fit in at his new club.
With Marouane Fellaini also struggling to make his mark, I’d argue that Louis Van Gaal needs to take action in the January transfer window. Yes, he spent a huge amount of money during the summer, but if he sits still, he’s going to find the going even tougher as the season progresses.
This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Manchester United are considering making a move for Paris Saint Germain midfielder, Yohan Cabaye. If their interest is genuine then there’s a good chance that they’re going to face competition from Arsenal and Liverpool, who could both use a little more inspiration in their midfield.
Arsenal have managed to turn Cabaye’s head before (back when he was at Newcastle), but I’m sure Manchester United would provide more appeal for the talented Frenchman. The Red Devils have deep pockets, can afford to offer him big wages and probably provide a better opportunity of winning silverware (admittedly, that last point is debatable).
The aforementioned source claims that Yohan Cabaye is struggling to settle in Paris and suggests that he may be willing to consider returning back to the Premier League. Paris Saint Germain are fairly well stocked in terms of midfielders and it can be difficult to make your mark in a team that throws money at its problems.
Cabaye simply needs to decide whether he’s prepared to wait things out, or if he’s going to take charge of his career and make a move to a club that will give him the game time he deserves. Let’s hope he opts for a return back to English football.
