Sometimes you read a transfer rumour that’s so unashamedly stupid, that you can’t help but admire the bold-faced cheek of the source that put it out into the world. This is one of those times.
According to The Metro, Manchester United have their eyes set on Real Madrid star Gareth Bale. Now, that’s not all that unreasonable. Yes, the Welshman has a huge price-tag hanging over his head, but The Red Devils do have pretty deep pockets. What’s more, are their any clubs in world football who wouldn’t be interested in Bale? He’s one of the best players of this generation and he’d improve any club side.
But here’s the kicker. According to the aforementioned source, The Red Devils are willing to swap their £59.7m signing, Angel Di Maria in order to sign the Welsh wizard. Things move quickly in the footballing world, but I find it difficult to believe that Louis Van Gaal would have lost interest in Di Maria quite so quickly.
I think it’s fair to say that we haven’t seen all that Di Maria has to offer quite yet. The Argentine ace needs to be given time to adapt to his new surroundings. As soon as players like Radamel Falcao and Robin Van Persie spring into life, we’ll start to see more from Angel Di Maria.
We already know that he’s excellent in possession and that he’s one of the best crossers in the Premier League. Selling him on would be a big mistake, even if it helped Manchester United to seal a deal for Gareth Bale.
What’s more, why would Real Madrid sell Bale when he’s been something of a success at The Bernabeu? In 58 appearances for the Spanish powerhouse, he’s found the back of the net 28 times. In a side that’s completely dominated by Cristiano Ronaldo, this is an impressive feat.
I’d love to see Manchester United pursue a separate deal for Gareth Bale, but I certainly won’t be holding my breath. Maybe it’s time for The Red Devils to back the Real Madrid player they already managed to sign?

Am not suprised since you actually called it a rumour. Ancelloti recently said Angel di maria was wastefull. Giving away balls to opponents at difficult times. So i see no reason why this rumour would even happen in wonderland….
LVG may be thinking so stupid if he wishes to swap deal with Angel Di Maria for Gareth Bale, if he want to bring Bale on board find but not swap deal
