Should Arsenal swoop in for this £30m Barcelona duo?

Pedro (Spain)It can’t be any easy time to be an Arsenal fan. Any team can throw a game away, but The Gunners have made it a habit. For a manager with as much experience and know-how as Arsene Wenger, this must be torture. I’m sure he drills his team as well as ever and that he’s putting in extra hours to make things work, but it’s just not coming together at the moment.

The 3-3 draw with Anderlecht was painful and the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea City was even more difficult to take. How did Arsenal not learn from the result earlier that week? Why can’t The Gunners’ wingers close down crosses? What circumstances have conspired to turn Nacho Monreal into a fully fledged centre-back at a club as big as Arsenal?

It’s bizarre. One thing’s for sure: Arsene Wenger needs to take action in the January transfer window. Let’s just hope that The Professor is ready and willing to take action as early as possible. It would be nice to see some deals announced on January 1st, but I won’t hold my breath.

This brings me to The Express‘s claim that Arsenal have their eyes on two Barcelona stars: right-back Dani Alves and wing-wizard Pedro. Both footballers would improve this Arsenal side significantly.

Alves is an experienced right-back who won’t get caught out as much as Calum Chambers (who is a major yellow-card magnet). He’s also available for as little as £6m, thanks to his current contractual situation (he’ll be available for free at the end of the season).

Then there’s Pedro, an exciting winger who’s currently getting short shrift at the Nou Camp. With players like Luis Suarez and Neymar eating up his game time, the Spanish ace would probably jump at the opportunity for regular game time elsewhere.

It’s thought that he could be available for as little as £24m. That’s a fair price for a good player. If he proves to be half as good as Alexis Sanchez, he’ll prove worthy of his price-tag.

Let’s just hope that there is some truth to these rumours and that Arsene Wenger is ready to spring into action.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal snap up these two Barcelona outcasts?
