Sami KhediraFor the last year or so, Arsenal have been strongly linked to Real Madrid’s highly-regarded defensive midfielder, Sami Khedira.

Given The Gunners most recent performances, I’d argue that Arsene Wenger is in as much need as ever. To call Arsenal a shambles is an understatement. When you’re unable to hold onto a 3-0 lead against opposition like Anderlecht, you know that you’re in trouble. The 2-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea City further illuminated the extent of Arsenal’s weaknesses.

Now this is not to say that a player like Sami Khedira could come in and instantly provide a solution. He’s going to need some time to adapt and The Gunners are also going to need to find another centre-back or two. Still, I can’t help but feel that he’s the right man for the job. If Arsene Wenger can get his hands on the talented German, the club will be in a much stronger position moving forward.

As luck would have it , his manager Carlo Ancelotti recently commented on the player’s circumstances, hinting that his future could lie away from The Bernabeu:

‘There are indications that Khedira is going to go, but he shows he likes Madrid and nothing is sure yet.’ (Source: The Metro)

It’s tough to know what to make of these comments. Carlo Ancelotti seems to give and take within the same sentence. Still, the Real Madrid boss has made it clear that there is at least the possibility that he will leave the club sooner rather than later.

At 27-years-old, Sami Khedira still has a number of good years ahead of him. If he genuinely is available this January, The Gunners would be foolish to miss out. He could be exactly what they need if they’re to get back on track.

Let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger feels the same way.

What’s your take? Is Sami Khedira the perfect choice for Arsenal? Will Carlo Ancelotti let him go?
