Should Arsenal ‘hurry through’ this £19m signing?

Arsenal fans must feel thoroughly underwhelmed at what they’ve seen of their team thus far this season. The summer ended with so much promise. Arsene Wenger signed two attacking players with a huge amount of talent. Alexis Sanchez is one of the smartest, hardest working forwards in the world. He’s a genuine marvel. Danny Welbeck, on the other hand, is another excellent addition in his own right. It may take him a little bit longer to come into his own, but the signs are already there that he’ll prove to be a good fit for The Gunners.

If only Arsene Wenger had chosen to fix his defense as well as his attack during the summer transfer window. Instead he let both Thomas Vermaelen and Bacary Sagna go and he failed to bring in enough reinforcements. The Gunners have already paid the price for this mistake this season. Let’s just hope that The Professor already has plans in place for the January transfer window.

According to The Metro, Arsene Wenger does have his eyes on somebody. The source suggests that Arsenal are trying to ‘hurry through’ a £19m deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Lars Bender. That sounds pretty promising.

The Metro suggest that Arsenal’s interest in Sami Khedira is all but over and that Arsene Wenger views Lars Bender as the next best alternatively. He’ll have to act quickly as Barcelona are also thought to be sniffing around.

Like Khedira, Bender has an excellent reputation in German football. He’s known for his tough-tackling and his dynamic midfield play. In that regard, he’s going to make a significant improvement over the likes of Mathieu Flamini (and even Mikel Arteta), who tends to let games pass him by.

He’s a man who has been linked to The Gunners for quite some time now. Here’s hoping that Arsene Wenger can drag this deal over the line. He could make all the difference for Arsenal over the coming months.
