Could Liverpool really get their hands on this £32m superstar?

ReusDiscounting a 2-1 win against Swansea City in the Capital One Cup, The Reds have been on an unbelievably poor run of games. Anybody can lose to Real Madrid, but 1-0 defeats against an Alan Pardew led Newcastle United side are slightly less forgivable. Their 0-0 draw against Hull City felt like a defeat, largely because Liverpool were so lacking in inspiration. Heck, even their 3-2 victory over QPR was a disappointment, given the nature of their performance.

That’s the trouble. The Reds are struggling for inspiration at this moment in time. When Luis Suarez led their line, he was able to conjure up moments of magic on demand. His goal-scoring nous and overall ability made a major difference last season. Without him, Liverpool just aren’t the same side. The absence of Daniel Sturridge due to injury has simply served to exacerbate the situation.

Brendan Rodgers needs to reach out into the transfer market in order to find a player who can have as big an impact as Suarez did during his time at Anfield. Raheem Sterling could be that man in the future, but The Reds need somebody in the here and now. Could Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus be the man for the job?

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Liverpool have a ‘clear path to sign’ the German ace, as his paymasters have ended their attempts to tie him down to a new contract. Dortmund are now at risk of losing him on the cheap during a future iteration of the transfer window.

As it happens, the aforementioned source suggests that Reus currently has a £32m price-tag. Given that The Metro also label him Liverpool’s ‘number one transfer target’, it’s beginning to look like things are falling into place for Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool spent a huge amount of money in the summer, but if Reus really is available this January, they’d be foolish not to continue their spree. The fleet-footed winger has all the ability necessary to kick The Reds back into title winning contention. Let’s just hope that Brendan Rodgers and co. are able to cough up £32m.

What’s your take? Could Liverpool really manage to pull off a deal for Marco Reus?

No we won’t get him nor any other top class marquee. The list of top class players we have failed to sign grows longer and longer. Suspiciously it looks like , for all they deny , that we do not offer contracts that players would consider coming here. FSG said from day one that they didn’t like spending big sums on buying players and they have maintained this attitude as far as I can see. Their way is to look for cut price and we all know where that leads – to average run-of-the-mill fodder.
