Could Arsenal still seal a deal for Yohan Cabaye?

Yohan CabayeOver in Ligue 1 Paris Saint Germain are busy putting together quite a fine team. Still, spending so much money so quickly does have a few adverse effects. At the moment there are more than a few footballers who are growing dissatisfied with their current role art the club. Given all the talent that Laurent Blanc has brought in, it’s perhaps unsurprising that some have been squeezed out.

When a player as good as Edinson Cavani can’t get game-time in his favoured position, it’s a sign that something’s amiss.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal target Yohan Cabaye is growing increasingly frustrated in Paris and that he’s pining for a return to the Premier Legaue. The source suggests that the former Newcastle man has struggled to ‘settle’ at his new club.

Given that he’s only been in his new surroundings for less than a year, some will feel that he should just bide his time, wait to find his form and hope for the best. This strikes me as a rather misguided suggestion. At 28-years-old, Cabaye should be enjoying the best years of his career, not struggling to make an impact.

If there’s a half decent Premier League team out there who will have him, Cabaye would be foolish to turn the opportunity down. If Arsenal are interested, the Frenchman is more than likely to have his head turned.

It wasn’t so long ago now that Arsene Wenger first signaled his interest in the player. When this happened Alan Pardew was forced to pull him from Newcastle United’s match-day squad, because his head wasn’t in the right place. We could have a similar situation on our hands in the January transfer window.

With players like Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil struggling to find their best form at The Emirates, I can’t help but feel that The Gunners could use one more player in this area of the park. Whether or not Yohan Cabaye is the right man for the job remains to be seen, but he’s certainly a good option.

What’s your take? Should Arsene Wenger re-ignite his interest in French star Yohan Cabaye?
