When Liverpool first signed Mario Balotelli there was a huge amount of expectation in and around the Italian ace. I think it’s fair to say that this expectation has all evaporated away. I’m not sure that seeing Balotelli’s name on the team-sheet conjures up a lot of belief at the moment.
Given that Liverpool had lost Luis Suarez in the summer, they needed somebody to step up and fill the void. Mario Balotelli looked like the smart choice. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to be up to the challenge.
With Daniel Sturridge’s injury record being as it is, Brendan Rodgers may well have to go back out into the transfer market in order to make amends.
This leads me neatly onto The Metro‘s claim that Liverpool are interested in signing FC Porto’s £30m rated centre-forward, Jackson Martinez. Given that the Colombian ace has a remarkable goal-scoring record (72 goals in 106 appearances), this is very exciting news indeed.
Martinez has scored 12 goals in 15 games this season. Compare this return to the one offered by Mario Balotelli. £30m is a lot of money, but at this stage, I have to say that it looks like good investment.
The player himself has previously spoken out about his hopes for the future: check out these comments: ‘My agent is in charge of the negotiations. I prefer to stay out of it. At the end of this season I hope to get some interesting proposals.’
This begs the question: are Liverpool capable of providing him with an interesting proposal? With The Reds struggling at the moment, will they still hold a draw for a top class striker like Jackson Martinez?
Let’s hope so. The Reds need to find some way of extricating themselves out from underneath Luis Suarez’s shadow.
What’s your take? Should Liverpool attempt to wrap up a deal for Jackson Martinez?

i think its better to go for such prolifick striker
A.shurle is the better option. why martinez not interested.
yes he has de quality…scoring 12 goals in 15 appearances makes it fair deal to consider..but spending to the tune of 30m looks exorbitant and inflated..however can raise this sum through d sale of the recent acquisations like markovic, balloteli, lambert, to raise this sum.

It is the wrong Martinez that Liverpool needs to sign !! Yes, he seems like a good buy, but at 30 million pounds it will be a bit too hefty for Liverpool considering they splashed out quite a bit in the Summer. They should , and I have said this a few times before, to look at Raul Martinez at Atletico Madrid. He is young and will fit into BR game plan quite nicely and I am sure we could buy him at half the price for Jackson.
My comment 7 mins ago should be edited to read: Wrong Raul (and not wrong Martinez) Raul Jimenz at Atletico Madrid would be a better and cheaper option, he is younger than Martinez and could be the long term answer that Liverpool is looking for.
