Gonzalo Higuain (Argentina):Whilst Liverpool fans didn’t expect Mario Balotelli to be as influential as Luis Suarez, I’m sure they were hoping that he would at least bring plenty of goals with him. Whilst he was at AC Milan he scored 30 goals in 54 games, which isn’t a bad return for a young player in a fairly average side (Milan aren’t as good as they used to be). Unfortunately, he hasn’t brought his goal-scoring boots with him to Anfield.

He’s yet to get off the mark in the Premier League and his lack of sharpness in front of goal is seriously scuppering The Reds’ chances of silverware this season. I think it’s fair to say that Daniel Sturridge will be Liverpool’s leading man for the majority of this season.

But this leaves Liverpool in exactly the same position they were in when Luis Suarez first left the club. They just don’t have enough quality striking options.

This brings me to The Express‘s claim that Brendan Rodgers is keen on Napoli striker, Gonzalo Higuain. They slap a £31.2m price-tag on the Argentine centre-forward and claim that he’s currently ‘unsettled’ in Serie A. They suggest that he’s dissatisfied with his club’s current run of form (Napoli are tenth in the Italian league after 4 games and are out of the Champions League) and he’s looking for an exit route.

With Napoli’s financial situation being a little perilous, there’s every reason to believe that The Reds could seal a deal, if they’ve got enough cash to force one through. They spent a huge amount in the summer, so it’s not clear that they’ll have enough to secure another big transfer in the January transfer window. I’m sure that Liverpool fans will be keeping their finger’s crossed.

Whilst at Real Madrid, Higuain scored 122 goals in 264 games. During his time at Napoli, he has found the back of the net 27 times (whilst chipping in with 12 assists) in 55 games. He’s clearly an effective force in the final third. Who would bet against him making a major impact in the Premier League?

Let’s just hope that Brendan Rodgers is ready to make his move.

what’s your take? Should The Reds be in the market for Gonzalo Higuain?
