Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)Despite having signed Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao (as part of a loan deal) this summer, it looks like The Red Devils are still on the hunt for further exciting attacking talent. You’d think that Louis Van Gaal would be focusing solely on his defense, but apparently not.

In particular, Manchester United keep on picking up links to their former player, Cristiano Ronaldo. Since leaving Old Trafford, Ronny has blossomed quickly into one of the best players in world football. He enjoyed many of his formative years at Old Trafford, but he’s really built his name at Real Madrid. How The Red Devils would love to have him back.

There’s a few things that stand in Manchester United’s favour. For a start, Ronaldo always speaks very positively of Manchester, the club, the management and the fans. He’s spoken before about wanting to move back to his former club before his career draws to a close. What’s more, rumours have been circulating that Ronaldo is dissatisfied with his current club’s transfer policy. Perhaps the time is right for Van Gaal to make his move.

Unfortunately, there’s a major stumbling block that could prevent this deal from getting sealed: money. Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to command a huge price-tag and will likely demand a huge wage-packet. Having already spent big in the summer, it’s not clear that The Red Devils have enough financial firepower to make another colossal deal such as this come to pass.

The Metro claims that Ronaldo would cost as much as £60m and would want £500k-a-week if he’s to agree to move back to his former club. That’s essentially £60m plus £26m for each additional year he’s at the club. The Red Devils would make a lot of money back on shirt sales, but it’s still extortionate.

Luckily the aforementioned source suggests that Manchester United won’t agree a deal for Cristiano Ronaldo unless he takes a pay-cut on the £380k-a-week that he’s currently picking up. Things could be about to get interesting.

This will really test Ronaldo’s loyalty to Manchester United. Does he genuinely love the club, or are these just empty words? Let’s just hope that the former’s true. I’d love to see him back in the Premier League.

What’s your take? Will we ever see Cristiano Ronaldo back in a Manchester United shirt?
