Arsenal getting ‘closer’ to £55m deal: should Wenger make it happen?

Cavani2Signing Danny Welbeck was a big step forward for The Gunners. After relying on a limited centre-forward like Olivier Giroud, Welbeck’s pace and hold-up play feels like a breath of fresh air. Once he’s through on goal, there’s simply no stopping him and he’s proven to be a good finisher too. Giroud, on the other hand, rarely finds himself in a position where he’s one-on-one with the keeper.

With that in mind, I can’t help but feel that Arsenal should consider bolstering this area of the pitch further. Ideally Arsenal need two quality centre-forwards, not one and a half. Just look at how much things have improved over at Stamford Bridge since Chelsea brought in Diego Costa. It would be yet another step forward for The Gunners. It would likely to help them to win more silverware in the future.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal are getting ‘closer’ to agreeing a deal for Paris Saint Germain’s world class centre-forward, Edinson Cavani. Imagine the excitement that this kind of deal would create. It would be the biggest deal in the club’s history and not so long ago The Gunners spent £42.4m on Mesut Ozil.

The aforementioned source suggests that Edinson Cavani has grown ‘unhappy’ in Paris and that he’s increasingly dissatisfied at living life in Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s shadow. Given the Uruguayan’s goal-scoring record, I’d argue that he deserves a central role. Arsenal could offer him this, alongside Premier League football, which is considerably more competitive than Ligue 1 action.

The Metro claim that Paris Saint Germain would demand at least £55m in return for the 27-year-old. That’s a lot of money, but given how much Arsenal are charging their season ticket holders, I’m sure they’ll be able to close the deal. It’s just a matter of whether The Gunners are willing to demonstrate their ambition once again in the transfer market.

Finger’s crossed that Arsene Wenger is ready to put his money where his mouth is. Edinson Cavani could make all the difference.

What’s your take? Could The Gunners really wrap up this mammoth deal?

Cavani is top top quality the type of players I would sign South American players have a great hunger, work rate as you can see with my previous signing of Sanchez. Cavani would be excellent but I will try on deadline day to give psg time to find a replacement
