IscoOn the face of things, Arsenal’s midfield should be the strongest area of the team. It should be the area of the squad that drags them through games that they might otherwise have lost. But despite having a great midfield (on paper), The Gunners just haven’t started firing thus far this season.

Barring a few excellent patches of play against Manchester City, The Gunners’ have been largely lacklustre so far this year. In a season that had so much promise, this is hugely disappointing.

Aaron Ramsey seems to be reverting back into his old ineffective self. Mesut Ozil looks disinterested and unwilling. Santi Cazorla’s hit a poor patch of form. Jack Wilshere is too inconsistent. Mikel Arteta is beginning to look too old and too slow. All these obstacles add up. The result has been there for all to see on the match-days that Arsenal have taken part in thus far this season.

Despite this, it’s still a little strange to see The Gunners get linked to Real Madrid’s classy midfielder, Isco (Source: The Metro, who also claim that Liverpool and Juventus are interested). After all, Arsenal’s more pressing need seems to be fixing their defense. Hopefully Arsene Wenger is preparing a nice surprise for Arsenal fans: maybe he’s preparing to sign Isco and a couple of defensive personnel. We can dream, right?

Isco hasn’t been at The Bernabeu for long, having completed a £24m move from Malaga two summers ago. Since then he’s made 58 appearances for Madrid and has found the back of the net 11 times. Not bad for a 22-year-old, is it?

Unfortunately for Isco, Real Madrid’s new additions (Toni Kroos in particular) are likely to limit his playing time. Perhaps this is why he’s getting linked to a host of new clubs.

There’s no word as to how much he’d cost, but he’s under contract with Real Madrid until 2018, so he certainly won’t come cheap. If The Gunners really are interested, they’re going to have to splash the cash.

Adding another midfielder to the mix will increase competition and could bring the best out of other squad members. One thing’s for sure: Arsene Wenger has to try something.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal be interested in Isco?
