Munir El-HaddadiWhen it comes to Barcelona’s young talent, Arsenal just can’t seem to help themselves. You get the feeling that The Gunners have a scout posted at every Academy game that the Spanish powerhouse takes part in. Somebody whose sole purpose is to decide which player Arsenal will move in for next.

Admittedly, that’s a little far-fetched, but you can bet your bottom dollar that Arsene Wenger will have a good idea of the ability level of all of Barcelona’s young footballers.

In the past, The Gunners have signed Jon Toral, Hector Bellerin, Fran Merida and Julio Pleguezuelo from Barcelona. None of these individuals have had a major impact at The Emirates, but one or two of them may do so in the future.

But the man we all think of when we think of ex-Barcelona stars who moved to Arsenal is Cesc Fabregas. The superstar Spaniard was was with The Gunners for 8 years between 2003 and 2011. During this time he became an Arsenal legend, impressing with his slick, effortless passing, his unique footballing brain and his ability in front of goal. He was a truly special talent.

Unfortunately, he’s now playing his football with Chelsea (oh how it hurts…). I think it’s fair to say that The Gunners are waiting for the opportunity to snap up the next Cesc, if such a player exists.

This brings to The Metro’s claim that Arsenal are chasing two Barcelona youngsters, Munir El Haddadi and Sergi Samper. El Haddadi is an exciting young forward whose goal-scoring record in youth competitions has been quite remarkable. He’s even got a cap for the Spanish international side, despite only being 19-years-old.

Samper is also 19-years-old, but he’s a player who’s slightly more in the Cesc Fabregas mould. He’s Barcelona B’s holding midfielder. He’s got an excellent range of passes, great vision and immaculate technique. He’s certainly one for the future.

The Metro suggest that both players have release clauses written into their Barca contracts, that The Gunners are willing to trigger. Now Arsene Wenger just needs to convince the pair to trade the Nou Camp for the Emirates.

Maybe he can get Cesc Fabregas to give them a call?

What’s your take? Should Manchester United continue to target young Barcelona footballers?
